Position Overview

 As part of EMERGENCY’s current focus on expanding its international network, EMERGENCY BELGIUM is seeking to hire an experienced and passionate Development Manager to help lead our growth. She/he will provide management and coordination for all fundraising efforts to achieve the financial goals of EMERGENCY BELGIUM.

The position requires strong fundraising experience, including organization of special events, sponsorship solicitation and the ability to develop and nurture relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors and volunteers. The Development Manager will oversee the work of trainees, and will be responsible for coordination with consultants in areas such as public relations. She/he will report to the EMERGENCY BELGIUM board and work in cooperation with and the board as well as with EMERGENCY’s head office. As EMERGENCY BELGIUM’S presence grows in the country, so too will our staff and volunteer network. This position comes with the opportunity to grow into the position of Development Director after a couple of years, depending on performance.




  • Review, revise, and execute the fundraising strategy - community and corporate

  • Secure and step up financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations

  • Expand links with corporate-, institutional-, medical-, academic- and cultural sectors

  • Support head office’s initiatives for foundation and corporate fundraising

  • Organize talks and conferences in hospitals, universities, and medical schools


  • Review, revise, and execute the communications and media strategy

  • Represent the NGO in meetings and public events

  • Coordinate with Emergency’s head office and other international branches


  • Implement

    • a contacts database

    • a donor management system (data entry, donation processing, regular reports)

  • Supervise the activities of interns and volunteers and support their activities

  • Liaise between the volunteers, interns and board members

  • Report to Emergency Belgium’s board



The Development Manager must be committed to EMERGENCY’s principles, objectives and mission. She/he must be motivated to grow the organization quickly. Detailed qualifications include:

  • Languages: French, Dutch & English spoken and written fluently. Italian is an asset

  • Familiarity with Belgian federal and regional social, public and private networks

  • 3+ years of experience in non-profit development, outreach, and fundraising

  • Meaningful leadership and management experience in a non-profit or public sector

  • Ability to think strategically and also translate the “big picture” into practical action plans

  • Demonstrated excellence in organization, management, communication and networking

  • Skilled writer, comfortable with outreach through social media

  • Ability to work collaboratively with distributed/virtual multicultural teams

  • Desirable:

    • international humanitarian experience

    • familiarity with multimedia communications, incl. webdesign and -maintenance


Location and Travel

  • Brussels, Belgium

  • Travel required up to 20% – domestic and international
