Goderich Paediatric Centre

1 in 3 of our patients is a child.

Our projects in Sierra Leone

In 2002 EMERGENCY opened a Paediatric Centre within the compound of the Surgical Centre. In 2003 two new wards were added, one of them entirely dedicated to paediatric medicine.

An average of 1,300 children are treated every month at the centre. The main cases treated are; cerebral malaria, severe respiratory insufficiency and acute anaemia. Malnourished children are fed with a hypercaloric and hyperproteic ready-to-use food, locally prepared with ingredients that can be easily found in the country and that are easy to preserve. EMERGENCY’s staff visit over 50 children on a daily basis.
